February 1st

On Sunday February 1st, Chris and I will be doing the Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach. Well actually Chris is doing the marathon (26.2 miles) and I am doing the half marathon (13.1 miles).
Chris has 20 CBU students who are signed up to do the marathon and 4 others that signed up to do the half. Every Saturday morning the group gets together to do the long runs and then we are all supposed to do maintenance miles on our own during the week. Today the marathoners had to run 18 miles and the half marathoners had to run 10 miles.
I was nervous because the furthest I have EVER run is 7 or 8 miles and I have been sick so I didn't run at ALL for almost a month! But I actually ran 11 miles today instead of 10!! Crazy!
The best part about all of this has been watching Chris. Running a marathon is something he has always wanted to do and he is working so hard! Not only that but to be able to rally in 25 students to put in the time and perseverance that it takes is just so cool!
It is hard to believe that this is just 22 days away!! Here is a picture of the cool Surfboard medals we get upon completion!

Stay tuned for a post and some pictures from the big day!
(PS... there are actually 5 people that work at my school that are also doing the half marathon and 2 others that are doing the 5K!! NICE!)

That's one reason that I love California. You can actually run outside in the months of October-March. Here I'd have to run through 10 inches of snow!
Have fun! I love doing half marathons. Half the run, twice the fun!

how on earth does one just run 11 miles in a day?.. The marathon I understand, but just casually running 11 miles?... I feel like after ten seconds I would be gasping for air and looking for a place to stop and rest! Way to go!!
